Abu ad-Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “Shall I not inform you of the best of your deeds, the purest in the sight of your Lord, which raises your status the most, and is better for you than giving gold and silver, and better than encountering your enemy and striking their necks while they strike yours?” The companions said, “Certainly, O Messenger of Allah.” So he said, “It is the remembrance of Allah.

The Sunnah has provided numerous proofs highlighting the excellence of this phrase, showing its elevated status. Every Muslim brother and sister must give it due attention and recite it abundantly, considering the immense rewards it brings. 

The four Dhikr’s that are among the most beloved statements to the Almighty Allah it was narrated in Musnad Ahmad and also in Tirmidhi that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “There is no one on earth who says: 

La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah,

There is no power and no strength except with Allah.

La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah.

There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, Allah is the Greatest, Glory be to Allah, and All praise is due to Allah.

Except that His sins will be forgiven, no matter what, even if they were like the foam on the ocean.

Abu Dawud and al-Nasa’i reported that Ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘A man once approached the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I find it difficult to memorize the Qur’an. Please teach me something that will be sufficient.’ The Prophet responded, ‘Say:

SubhaAllah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar

Glory be to Allah; all praise is due to Allah; there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah; Allah is the Greatest.

The Bedouin man clasped his hands together and asked, ‘This is for Allah, but what about me?’ In response, the Prophet instructed him to say:

Allah hum maghfir Ii, Warhamni, Wa ‘Afini Warzuqni, Wahdini.

O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me safety, provide for me, and guide me.

Ibn Majah, al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibban, and others narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If a person says ‘There is no one worthy to be worshipped but Allah and Allah is the greatest’, Allah says, “My slave has told the truth, there is no one worthy to be worshipped, but I, and I am the greatest.”

Imam Ahmad narrated that Uthman ibn ‘Affan was asked about the enduring good deeds, so he said it is “La ilaha illa Allah, SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, and La hawla wala quwwata illa billah“.

O believers! Always remember Allah often, and glorify Him morning and evening. He is the One Who showers His blessings upon you—and His angels pray for you—so that He may bring you out of darkness and into light. For He is ever Merciful to the believers.

Surah Al-Ahzab – 41-43

La hawla wala quwwata illa billah has been counted as one of the ‘enduring good deeds’ mentioned in the Surah Al-Kahf verse 46 by some of the Companions and Tabi’in (the generation that followed the Companions).

Wealth and children are the adornment of this worldly life, but the everlasting good deeds are far better with your Lord in reward and in hope.
